This special introduces the Podgaming Initiative, a project bringing together dozens of video game podcasts to share knowledge, enable collaborations, and increase the medium’s visibility. Representatives from different shows explain their origins, formats, subjects, and working methods. The programme covers podcasts focused on current releases, retro games, cultural analysis, humour, interviews, and varied content, as well as collaboration initiatives between shows. The second half debates the state of video game podcasting: its relationship with Twitch, YouTube, radio, and other platforms; the advantages of audio and video; episode length; the difficulty of standing out amid a growing supply; and issues involving audiences, monetisation, and professionalisation. The discussion also addresses the importance of collaboration, specialisation, and differentiation, along with the limited presence of women and the need to encourage more diverse participation. It concludes by considering the sector’s future, funding models, and possible activities and meetups for the initiative.
